Thanksgiving Day is a well-known national holiday celebrated on various dates around the world such as the US, Canada, and even the Cayman Islands. This warm holiday is jam-packed with family fun, loving gestures, and most importantly, turkey! With Cayman Thanksgiving Day being just less than a month away, we are excited to announce a fantastic new read on the rise for children and parents. This book is called Thomas the Turkey by Lindsay Fink; a fun, interactive, Thanksgiving Day book. Thomas the Turkey is the perfect opportunity for parents to spend some quality time with their children. It’s interactive, educational, wholesome, and most importantly, fun!
Thomas the Turkey has lost all of his feathers, and it’s up to YOU to help him find them before Thanksgiving Dinner! Thomas the Turkey is a really exciting book; older siblings can participate by hiding Thomas’s feathers, and parents can read the book as youngsters search around the house to find them. The hidden feathers can be found on each page of the book, so the game can be as easy or as difficult as you would like – it’s up to you! At the end of the book, there is a page of paper feathers, so the children can cut these out to use, or real/artificial feathers are also great if you have them!
Lindsay wrote Thomas the Turkey a few years ago when she could not make it home to visit her family for Thanksgiving Day. As she could not go home, she wanted to make Thanksgiving special for her 2-year-old daughter, who is now 5 years old! So, Lindsay decided to create an exciting ‘turkey feather’ hunt for her daughter and some friends – and they had a blast!
Over the past few years, Lindsay has been reading Thomas the Turkey to the kids at her daughter’s school. They always have such an amazing time; they hide the feathers all around the classroom, and are asked to say what they were thankful for. They count the feathers and talk about the different colours that they find. The best part is: the children help each other find the hidden feathers. Lindsay knew in this moment that she had to turn the book into something for many, many more children in Cayman to enjoy. Thus, her literary dream has come true! Thomas the Turkey is here, and just in time for Thanksgiving celebrations.
Lindsay Fink, the author of Thomas the Turkey, has been a teacher for over twenty years. She believes in the magic that books bring into the growing hearts and imaginative minds of children. Working as a teacher, she has always been on the lookout for creative books with a fun activity that kids and families can follow up with, and Thomas the Turkey is the book that does just that.
Lindsay lives here in the Cayman Islands with her three little turkeys. They enjoy reading books and doing creative projects together.
