Pirates Week Turtle Release

By: Cayman Turtle Centre
  • Date: Fri 7 Nov, 2025
  • Time: Event starts at 10am
Free

The Cayman Turtle Conservation and Education Centre (CTCEC) invites the public to its annual Pirates Week Turtle Release, taking place on Friday, 7 November 2025 at 10am at Governor’s Beach, Seven Mile.

This cherished community event offers an inspiring opportunity to witness healthy, head-started Green Sea turtles—raised at the Centre to ensure optimal survival—being released into the wild. The release not only celebrates Cayman’s maritime heritage but also highlights CTCEC’s continued dedication to conservation and the restoration of local turtle populations.

As of September 2025, the Centre has proudly released over 37,000 Green Sea turtles into the wild, a milestone underscoring its vital role in the protection and recovery of this endangered species. Research led by the University of Barcelona found that over 90% of wild Green Sea turtles nesting on Grand Cayman are genetically related to turtles released by the Centre, demonstrating the long-term success of its conservation work.

This event is free and open to the public, offering an engaging, educational experience for families, students, and visitors alike.
