About

The Cayman Islands Humane Society rescues, protects, and finds loving families for Cayman’s homeless cats and dogs.

The shelter is open 365 days per year, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday 11am-5pm, Wednesday and Thursday 11am-1pm, Saturday 9am-4pm and on Sundays from 9am-12pm for dog walking. They are open from 7am for appointments only, but are busy tending to the dogs and cats so it is best to arrive after 9am.

The shelter has an average of 60+ dogs and 60+ cats/kittens at any given time.

They have a large variety of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that need loving homes. They are also happy for you to foster a dog or cat, whether for a sleepover or a long weekend where they will lend you a pet carrier, utensils, blankets, food, toys and treats. The shelter is always in desperate need of foster parents, either to care for sick or injured animals, puppies with ringworm, dogs that are suffering from kennel stress or cats/kittens that need some extra care or just a break from shelter life.

The Humane Society spay and neuter all pets that arrive at the shelter and even offer financial support for spay and neuter services to anyone who cannot afford to have their pet fixed, even if the animal has not come from the shelter.

The shelter welcomes volunteers who can either walk the dogs in the vicinity of the shelter or take them to the beach for a fun outing. The dogs only regularly get walked on weekends and dog walkers are welcome any day, every day, including public holidays! Dog walking is a great activity for children and the shelter staff will recommend the right animal for the age and size of your child, so everybody enjoys the walk. . Volunteers can offer anything from an hour a week walking dogs or socialising cats, to several days a week if they have the time.

To help raise funds for the Society, which is a not-for-profit organisation, you may volunteer to work in the Book Loft. The shelter also needs airline passengers to help transfer animals to overseas shelters in New York, Florida and Toronto and would like to encourage tourists to help by chaperoning our animals on their flight.

They also appreciate donations such as dog or cat food, toys, sheets, towels, and of course monetary donations.

During holidays, they are open from 9am-12pm.

They also have an emergency 24-hour contact at +1 345 326 1461 to help dogs or cats in dire situations.
