About

Over the bridge passing the pond with four resident ducks, and nestled within a farmyard setting, vegetable patch and butterfly garden sits Little Trotters school house where play, laughter, use of imagination and endless opportunities for social interaction are abound.

Little Trotters provides a nature-based education, where emphasis is placed on traditional values, kindness and responsibility. Academically strong, children are prepared for primary school, and integral to the curriculum is Maths, Literacy (via the Jolly Phonics approach) and Spanish, which are taught age appropriately.

Children leave Little Trotters having had three years of laughter, joy, learning through play and a love of learning instilled in them. They come out at 4.5 years knowing their phonetical alphabet, they can decode simple words, count well into their twenties and beyond, have learnt to play well together, share, resolve conflicts and have developed a passion for learning. They know their colours, shapes, life cycles of butterflies, frogs and plants, they have flown to the moon, learnt about Mozart, Beethoven, Vincent Van Gogh and other famous but complicated historical figures, they have learnt about weather systems, how dinosaurs lived and died, they bake, paint, learn Spanish and have literacy and Maths lessons four days a week. They learn how to hold their pencil properly and Little Trotters has a SENco teacher on staff that will spot and step in as soon as a SEN issue is identified, so that work can begin on resolving it.

Children are accepted into the Turtle class at 18 months and then progress at 2.5 years to the Stingray class before moving onto the Iguana class at 3.5 for their final year.

In their school inspection report they were graded as 'Excellent'. Please see the report here.

If you would like to put your child on the list at Little Trotters you must have your child on the list by the time you are two months pregnant. The waiting list is very long and you are very unlikely to get a place if you do not plan well in advance. Please email Lesley Maddox on littletrotters@candw.ky if you would like a tour or would like to be put on the list.
