About

In a quiet corner of George Town awaits a magical schoolhouse where the joy of childhood abounds. Once you cross the bridge, Little Trotters is a haven filled with laughter, imagination, play and endless opportunities for social interactions. The primary focus is on traditional values, kindness and responsibility. The children feed the animals, water the plants, bake, paint, perform in plays, sing, dance and truly become their best selves. Little Trotters offers valuable experiences in all pre academic skills, and maths and literacy are an integral part of the curriculum across the school. Additionally, the staffing body brings a range of training, experience and specialist areas, including a full time SENCo.

Little Trotters provides a nature-based education, where emphasis is placed on traditional values, kindness and responsibility. Academically strong, children are prepared for primary school, and integral to the curriculum is Maths (via the Karen Wilding EYMaths programme) and Literacy (via the Jolly Phonics approach), which are taught age appropriately.

Children leave Little Trotters having had three years of laughter, joy and learning through play while knowing deep down that learning is fun! They come out at 4.5 years knowing their phonetical alphabet, they can decode simple words, count well into their twenties and beyond, have learnt to play well together, share, resolve conflicts and have developed a passion for learning. They know their colours, shapes, life cycles of butterflies, frogs and plants, they have flown to the moon, learnt about Mozart, Beethoven, Vincent Van Gogh and other famous but complicated historical figures, they have learnt about weather systems, how dinosaurs lived and died, they bake, paint and have literacy and Maths lessons four days a week. They learn how to hold their pencil properly and Little Trotters has a SENco teacher on staff that will spot and step in as soon as a SEN issue is identified, so that work can begin immediately on resolving it. Teachers aim to foster a love for learning that ensures that the children view school and learning as exciting, joyful and validating.

Children are accepted into the Turtle class at 18 months and then progress at 2.5 years to the Stingray class before moving to the Iguana class at 3.5 for their final year.

Little Trotter was graded as 'Excellent' in their last school inspection report. Please see the report here. They were graded 'Excellent' in all categories including: Teaching, Exploration, Respect, Communication, Well-Being, Learning, Assessment, Curriculum, Health & Safety, Support & Guidance, Leadership, Links to Parents & the Community, Self Evaluation & Planning Ahead and also Staffing & the Learning Environment (May 2021 OES Report).

If you would like to put your child on the list at Little Trotters you must do so before you are two months pregnant. The waiting list is very long and you are unlikely to get a place if you do not plan well in advance. Please email Lesley Maddox on littletrotters@candw.ky if you would like a tour or would like to be put on the list.
