Round the Island Race
Whether you’re a sailor or a spectator, Cayman’s Easter regatta is sure to thrill. The race is in its 56th year and is organised by the Cayman Islands Sailing Club. On Good Friday around 12 boats will leave the North Sound and sail 41 miles east. The race finishes with festivities at Sunset House at around 3pm-3.30pm (if wind conditions are good). On Easter Saturday some of the boats will participate in the Back to the Sound Race, departing from the previous day’s finish line and race the 12 miles round to the North Sound, completing the circle round the Island. It’s a great opportunity to see local sailors in action and enjoy some tropical drinks. Crew places are often available for the event. For more information call (345) 916 6298 or email email@example.com. This year the Cayman registered 70 ft – Mod 70 – Trimaran will put in a showcase run, making a roundtrip from Sunset House at around noon. This world renown Trimaran should be finished by the time the first Cruiser crosses the finish line, around 3pm on Good Friday
Camping on Cayman’s beaches over Easter is traditional in the Cayman Islands. Every year you will see hundreds, if not thousands of people camping on beaches all over the Cayman Islands. It’s a great opportunity for families and friends to get together and reminisce about simpler times, as well as enjoy the natural beauty of the Cayman coastline. Families start marking their spot in the days leading up to Good Friday, when they move in and begin a long weekend of fun filled activities such as swimming, fishing, playing games, barbecuing and generally have a great time!
Read Explore Cayman's article on Camping in Cayman for more details on the rules and regulations of camping in Cayman.
Staycations on the North Side or in the Eastern Districts are very popular amongst residents over the Easter break. Avoid airport stress and spend the weekend relaxing in a lovely villa with stunning sea views. Refuel with a BBQ at home or a fantastic meal at Kaibo or Rum Point. A wonderful weekend away from everyday life! Visit the Staycations in Cayman page on www.caymanresident.com for places to stay.
If it’s true peace and tranquillity you desire then take a short plane ride to Little Cayman or Cayman Brac. Enjoy the outstanding natural beauty of the islands as well as the incredible diving and unique cultural history. Travel to the Sister Islands has now been restricted to residents of the Islands.
