Constitution Day is observed as a national public holiday in the Cayman Islands, commemorating the adoption of the Islands’ first written constitution on 4 July 1959. This important milestone helped lay the foundation for modern self-governance and affirmed the principles of democracy, justice and good government.
The day also marks the adoption of the Cayman Islands coat of arms and recognises a key moment in the Islands’ history, including constitutional changes that gave women the vote.
